DEADLY COLLAPSE: At least 15 dead, 150 trapped in India disaster

Image
At least 15 people were killed and another 150 believed trapped when a portion of an overpass under construction collapsed in a congested area in the eastern Indian city of Kolkata on Thursday, police and officials said. Army troops joined efforts to rescue those trapped inside cars, trucks and other vehicles that lay under massive concrete blocks and metal debris. Witnesses said that emergency personnel were attempting to use their bare hands to rescue those caught under the wreckage. The collapse occurred in Bara Bazaar, a busy residential and shopping area in the city of approximately 4.5 million people. "The area was very, very crowded. Motorized rickshaws, taxis ... there was a lot of traffic," one witness told the New Delhi Television news channel, or NDTV. Another added: "We heard a loud rumble and then saw a lot of dust in the sky." Huge cranes and other rescue equipment reached the site after the collapse and began clearing the rubble. Workers

How Comparing a Black Murder Defendant to 'King Kong' Affected His Trial

[ANALYSIS] Andrew Cohen of The Marshall Project looks at how use of racial epitaphs in the capital case of a man on trial for homicide went ignored until a judge finally took notice A federal trial judge in South Carolina last week overturned the death sentence of a man convicted of stabbing his victim more than 70 times with a screwdriver. The sentencing phase of the trial of Johnny O’Landis Bennett was so infected by racial animus by the prosecutor and a juror, U.S. District Judge  Richard Mark Gergel  concluded, that Bennett was deprived of his constitutional right to due process. The granting of  habeas  relief  is a rare thing these days , but Judge Gergel’s  order  in the Bennett case is remarkable for two other reasons. First, it highlights the lack of meaningful judicial review capital cases like this receive from state judges in South Carolina, jurists who time and again in Bennett’s case excused the racist theme of the hearing. Second, the judicial rebuke marks a fitti

Authorities in Georgia announced Monday that they had charged seven people in connection with the killing of a lottery winner this past January.  Ben Hill County Sheriff's officials identified six of the seven charged in the death of Craigory Burch Jr. as 22-year-old Rosalyn Swain, 24-year-old Keyana Dyous, 21-year-old Anjavell Johnson, 27-year-old Earnest Holcombe, 19-year-old Dabrentise Overstreet, 28-year-old Nathaniel Baker. The seventh suspect, a 17-year-old, was not identified because he is a juvenile. All seven face charges of malice murder, aggravated assault, armed robbery and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.  Investigators say three masked men kicked down Burch's door on the evening of Jan. 20 and demanded money. Burch, who had won $434,272 the previous November in the Georgia Lottery's Fantasy 5 game, was holding his 2-year-old child when the men burst in. Burch's girlfriend, Jasmine Hendricks, told WALB that he pleaded wit

EgyptAir hijacker arrested in Cyprus; officials call him an 'idiot,' not a terrorist

Image
Police arrested a lovestruck “idiot” who reportedly wore a fake suicide belt and forced an EgyptAir passenger jet to land in Cyprus Tuesday morning, government officials confirmed, ending a bizarre and frightening hijacking that stretched on for hours. Officials in Cyprus said the hijacking was "over," with all the remaining passengers and crew freed. The country's president Nicos Anastasiades insisted it was not terrorism, with another government official saying the man "seems (to be) in love." Officials reportedly said he demanded a meeting with his ex-wife, giving negotiators the name of a woman who lives in Cyprus and asking to give her an envelope. Witnesses told state TV he tossed a letter for the woman onto the tarmac. “Terrorists are crazy but they aren’t stupid. This guy is.” - Egyptian foreign ministry “He’s not a terrorist, he’s an idiot,” Egypt’s foreign ministry said in a statement to a Cairo-based journalist quoted by Reuters. “Terro

Ted Cruz more dangerous than Trump because he actually believes ‘the crap’ he says

Image
In an interview with the  Daily Beast , publisher and gadfly Larry Flynt took some shots at the GOP presidential front-runners, warning that Texas Senator Ted Cruz is much more dangerous than Donald Trump because he actually believes “the crap” he says on the campaign trail. Flynt got in some digs at easy target Donald Trump, saying he probably has a “3-inch dick,” while comparing him to Italian fascist Benito Mussolini. “There have been other people in history that have been a lot like Trump. I just watched a documentary about Mussolini and it’s uncanny the resemblance they have, not only in their speech but their whole persona,” Flynt explained. “Trump controls what I call the low-information voters, the low-hanging fruit. I think very few intelligent people are going to be voting for Donald Trump.” Turning to former rival Marco Rubio ludicrous attempt to boost his flagging campaign by making jokes about the size of Trump’s penis, Flynt said there might be something there.

Woman tracks down anonymous sperm donor, they fall in love

Image
An Australian couple that conceived a child through IVF met in person one year after their daughter was born. The mother, Aminah Hart, simply wanted her sperm donor, Scott Andersen, to play a role in her daughter Leila’s life. But when the couple, from Victoria, met, sparks flew,  Metro.co.uk reported . Hart, 42, went through IVF with an anonymous donor after losing her two young sons Marlon and Louis, at 14 weeks and 14 months, respectively, to the genetic disorder x-linked myotubular myopathy. Hart herself had grown up without a father, so when she gave birth to Leila on Aug. 14, 2012, she began tracking down the donor so her daughter wouldn’t share the same fate. Anderson, who had told the fertility clinic he’d be willing to meet a child born from his sperm, met Hart on Aug. 18, 2013— nearly one year after Leila was born. “It was much easier than I’d anticipated,” Aminah told Metro.co.uk. “I was nervous … I was walking in to meet a complete stranger and I had his genetic child in

PaySpree: An Affiliate Network That Pays Instant Commission On Every Product

Image
If you sell digital products online you are no doubt aware of the two most popular affiliate networks, ClickBank and PayDotCom. While both of these are great and I highly recommend each of them, today I came across a brand new service that really caught my attention. It's called PaySpree and the reason it caught my attention is that ALL its members get paid for their sales instantly. And they can choose whether to be paid by PayPal, AlertPay or Credit Card. Even affiliates get paid for their referred sales instantly. I expect it to become quite a hit as the lure of 'instant commissions'  played a big part in the massive success of products such as 7DollarSecrets and the RapidActionProfits scripts. And PaySpree offers even more than what you get with those. I've actually come across products for sale that are just lists of affiliate programs that pay instant paypal commission. And I've seen many threads in the various internet marketing forums asking about

Drugs Was Just a Method to Suppress Blacks

Image
War on drugs was just a racist front. It looks like Tupac was right. In his hit song “Changes,” the legendary rapper famously said: “ Instead of war on poverty they got a war on drugs so the police can bother me. ” Tupac wasn't the only one with this opinion. Many in the Black community have long suspected the war on drugs, which was started by Richard Nixon in 1971, was used as a tool to target minorities, and according to journalist Dan Baum, it's true. In a  Harper’s magazine  story,  Baum recounted an interview he conducted with former Nixon administration aide   John Ehrlichman in 1994. According to Ehrlichman, the war on drugs was designed to suppress the rival factions of President Nixon — hippies and Blacks. Ehrlichman,  who served prison time for his part in the Watergate scandal ,  sought to unburden himself in the interview. Ehrlichman told Baum : " We knew we couldn't make it illegal to be either against the war

Khloé Kardashian Finally Reveals What's Going on With Her Face

Image
Looks like she didn't exactly keep it 100 about those plastic surgery rumors. Seems like we can never get a straight answer from the Kardashian-Jenner girls about plastic surgery or "enhancement" rumors.  First, there was  Kylie 's flip-flop about her lips.  Kim 's butt is still a big mystery. And now,  Khloé Kardashian  is backtracking — sort of — on her recent claims that she's never, ever, fingers-crossed  ever  had any work done. While she still maintains she's never gone under the knife, she does finally admit that she's had Botox and/or fillers. "I looked crazy, and I still think the effects are in there! I went to have it dissolved like three times," she said on her talk show  Kocktails With Khloé  last night. Speaking to celebrity plastic surgeon Terry Dubrow, she went on to admit that she'd gotten it done right before  Lamar Odom 's accident. The reason the procedure didn't work like she had hoped? According to Khloé, h

Former No Limit Rapper Mac Could Be Released From Prison Due To Withheld Evidence

Image
McKinley Phipps, Jr., who was once signed to No Limit Records under the moniker  Mac , may soon find himself a free man. According to  XXLMag.com , added details in Phipp's case have been recently uncovered by The Huffington Post. Most importantly, the website claims that the jury in Phipp's case “never heard the testimony of Jerry Price, who says Tillison [the key witness in the case] was outside Club Mercedes in Slidell, where the concert took place, and couldn’t have seen the shooting.” During the trial, Tillison claimed he looked Phipps “dead in his eyes” when he allegedly shot and killed a man at a concert in 2000. News of Price's unheard testimony comes months after it was reported that five prosecution witnesses claimed they were bullied and even stalked by law enforcement and prosecutors. "There is an undeniable pattern of irregularities that is very easy to see," defense attorney Buddy Spell told The Huffington Post, last year. "We'r

Teen Punched by Katt Williams Explains What Went Down

Image
Katt Williams  seemed to hit a new low yesterday when footage surfaced of him sucker-punching a teenager. Though, from the video, it was difficult to tell what provoked the attack, Katt's 17-year-old victim, Luke Walsh , has come forward to explain what happened. Turns out, Katt asked the kid to punch him in the first place, but then turned the tables on the stunned teenager.  "We were playing a game of soccer and I just thought it was a soccer game, but stuff happens in sports," Luke told the  Daily Mail . "He took me over to a secluded area and asked me to hit him and I was like, 'I'm not just going to hit you. You want to square up?' And then he sucker-punched me so I did what I did," Luke said. What he did was put Williams in a choke hold and took him down — fast. "I tried to shake his hand and he was like, 'back off me little boy.' I don't know if he was sour but it is what it is," Luke says. The teen, who says he was a

Two Milwaukee women charged, accused of punching Burger King employee

Latonia Howell, Jasmeika Simon The accused are 41-year-old Latonia Howell and 23-year-old Jasmeika Simon.  Each faces a felony charge of physical abuse of a child (intentional causation of bodily harm). [video] Men caught in Easter bunny mall brawl face judge

Image
JERSEY CITY, N.J. –   A mall Easter bunny and a father who got into a scuffle have made their initial court appearances and had their bails set. Kassim Charles, who was playing the Easter bunny, and Juan Jimenez-Guerrero, whose toddler daughter fell off a chair while getting her photo taken, are charged with aggravated assault and disorderly conduct. Charles' bail was set Tuesday at $20,000, but he was later released on his own recognizance. Jimenez-Guerrero's bail was set at $25,000. After Jimenez-Guerrero's 15-month-old daughter slipped from the chair on Sunday, he verbally and physically attacked Charles, authorities said. A video posted online shows a chaotic scene at the Newport Centre in Jersey City as the men exchange punches. It shows Charles wearing the body portion of the bunny costume fighting and then being separated by security. A few seconds later, Charles appears again, throws off his white bunny gloves and exchanges more punches. Both men were t
