South Loop Gunfire Leads to Charges For 23-Year-Old, Police Say

CHICAGO — A 23-year-old man is facing charges after a shooting in the South Loop on Tuesday.
The daytime shooting in front of an apartment tower in the 2000 block of South Michigan Avenue left no one injured, though two cars were damaged. Two men were arguing before the gunfire, police said.
Tyree Reese, 23, of the 300 block of North Pine Avenue, faces charges of aggravated unlawful use of weapon, defacing a gun's ID markings and criminal trespass, according to Chicago Police.
A second man was released without charges, police said.
Ald. Pat Dowell (3rd) sent an email about the incident to constituents. She said police worked "immediately and effectively" when responding to the gunfire.
"Protecting our city's residents is crucial, but there is no way to restrict the free movement of individuals across the city," Dowell said.
