7-Year-Old Girl Shot On South Side; 'It's Devastating'


A 7-year-old girl was wounded in a shooting in Chatham on Monday, police said. At 4:52 p.m., a 7-year-old girl received a graze wound to the head in the 7600 block of South St. Lawrence Avenue, said Officer Michelle Tannehil, a Chicago Police spokeswoman.

At 4:52 p.m., the girl received a graze wound to the head in the 7600 block of South St. Lawrence Avenue, said Officer Michelle Tannehil, a Chicago Police spokeswoman. 


The girl was taken to Comer Children's Hospital, where she was listed in good condition, Tannehill said.
Neighbors said that the block is usually quiet and shootings don't take place often.
Tony Davis, who has lived on the block for two years, said the family of the girl moved in eight months ago.
"It's usually quiet around here. I heard three shots," Davis said. "They just moved here. That's crazy."
Vaness Pitchford has lived on the block for the past 45 years. She was shocked to hear gunshots so close to her home.
"I heard two shots. It was real loud," Pitchford said. "I didn't know them. They haven't lived here long. It's devastating. This upsets me. I live next door."

Milwaukee woman accused of overdosing on heroin in presence of 4-year-old

On Media Outlook News:  PLYMOUTH -- Shooting up in front of a child. A four-year-old in Sheboygan is witness to a mother overdosing and coming close to death. Investigators say the toddler's father was also using the drug. Police say the couple traveled to Milwaukee to buy drugs. They allegedly did heroin before they left the city, driving high back to Sheboygan with the four-year-old in the car. 27-year-old Maxine Primeau now faces three charges: Possession of narcotic drugs, possession of drug paraphernalia and child neglect. Police: 1 killed, another hospitalized in shooting near 4th and Melvina Streets

On Media Outlook News:  MILWAUKEE — Milwaukee police say two people were shot, one fatally, in an incident that occurred at 4th and Melvina on the city’s north side on Thursday evening, July 20th.
