She was a happy girl until everything changed at the end of October when she was involved in a fight after school, her parents told KDVR. They say it was her first fight and it was recorded by another student and posted on an app called Musical.ly. The video shows Ashawnty and another student fighting, while other kids watched. Ashawnty's mother, Latoshia Harris, says her daughter had been confronting the girl who had been bullying her. "I saw my daughter was scared," she said. The video is difficult to watch. But Ashawnty's parents are sharing it to help other parents. "She was devastated when she found out that it had made it to Musical.ly," said her father, Anthony Davis. "I want other parent

What to Expect When Dating A Strong Black Woman

Image
On Media Outlook News: L et’s get one thing clear.  This article is not about the “strong Black woman” stereotype. It is hella negative, inaccurate and does not take into account why Black women are the way they are. I wrote about just how damaging I think this stereotype is to Black love, and you can check it out  here .                                                                 ***Advertisement*** The strong Black woman that I’m talking about doesn’t fit into any stereotype. She isn’t angry, cold or unforgiving. She isn’t terribly independent to the point where she makes life difficult for herself and those around her. She doesn’t have a desire to fill the role of a man. She desires and is eager to meet and build with a life partner. And honestly, she is critical to the existence of all mankind. Here’s how to love her. 1) Realize that she will need to do things on her own. Strong Black women aren’t damsels in distress. We do not desire for our mate to r

#ChurchToo Hashtag Emerges in Light of Sexual Assault Claims

Image
On Media Outlook News: W e have heard of the #MeToo campaign, but now the #ChurchToo hashtag has emerged where those who have been sexually assaulted by members of the cloth are speaking out.                                                                    ***Advertisement*** TIME reports that Hannah Paasch and Emily Joy kicked off the hashtag, which prompted Twitter users to share their stories of sexual abuse experienced in the church. Growing up in purity culture, I was taught that men were “visual creatures” that couldn’t help feeling aroused at the sight of slightly revealed ankles or knees, and that all men were imagining me naked 24/7. The entire system shamed women for even existing.  #ChurchToo — Sarah Lacour (@sarahrlacour)  November 22, 2017 When I think of the horror of  #churchtoo  I recall being taught in church that 1 corinthians 7:3-5 meant wives should always have sex when their husbands want it. Despite how they feel. …Effectively p

CBS Fires Charlie Rose Amid Harassment Charges

Image
On Media Outlook News:  The president of CBS News said veteran anchor   Charlie Rose   had been fired from the CBS Corp. unit after allegations that he had harassed former female employees at his production company surfaced Monday in a news report. “A short time ago we terminated Charlie Rose’s employment with CBS News, effective immediately. This followed the revelation yesterday of extremely disturbing and intolerable behavior said to have revolved around his PBS program,” said CBS News President David Rhodes in a memo to staffers issued Tuesday. “Despite Charlie’s important journalistic contribution to our news division, there is absolutely nothing more important, in this or any organization, than ensuring a safe, professional workplace—a supportive environment where people feel they can do their best work,” Rhodes said. “We need to be such a place.” More to come

True Love is Not the Struggle That You Might Imagine

Image
On Media Outlook News: W e have been conditioned to believe that if it’s too easy, it isn’t for us. Especially when it comes to love. While Frederick Douglass was correct in his assertion that, “Without struggle there is no progress,” one cannot absolve themselves of the choice to leave if your relationship is no longer serving you. We are taught to glamorize the struggle, even at the expense of our own joy. While many argue that the ups and downs is what makes love “true,” we, America—hell the world for that matter—take our willingness not to give up to the next level.                                                                   ***Advertisement*** We romanticize  Love Jones,  when in reality, Nina went out with Hollywood (Darius’ boy) while they were on break, and Darius’ stubbornness costed him Nina’s absence for an entire year. NFL Player Who Sits During ‘Star-Spangled Banner’ Made Time for Mexico’s Anthem

Image
On Media Outlook News: Y ou may remember Oakland Raiders’ Marshawn Lynch for his  timely ensemble choice  shortly after President Donald Trump slammed NFL players who sit or kneel during the national anthem. RT this picture of Marshawn Lynch wearing an "Everybody vs. Trump" shirt because no American citizen should be called out by a sitting President for practicing their right to free speech.  pic.twitter.com/vqaTWiYMny — Devin Duke (@sirDukeDevin)  November 20, 2017 Lynch’s shirt didn’t incite any public backlash from Trump but another admirably smart-assy move by the running back certainly did. Before the Raiders’ game against the New England Patriots in Mexico City on Sunday, Lynch went about sitting as usual during the national anthem. But Lynch’s demonstration became much more pointed when the Mexican national anthem proved to be more worthy of his standing energy. Lynch had time when it came to the recitation of “Mexicans, at the cry of war.”
