Roberto Maldonado (26th) recently got into a confrontation with police after officers wouldn't let him drive through a crime scene — and the whole incident was recorded on video. At one point, the Humboldt Park alderman got so angry that he called the entire Chicago Police Department into question, saying, "This is why the Police Department is in such bad shape with the citizens." The dispute happened June 18 near Maldonado's home, according to CBS2, which obtained the police body camera footage. At the beginning of the video, which is a little more than seven minutes long, Maldonado asks the officers which route he should take to drive home, saying the officer he had just spoken to was "very smart ass." One officer then gives him a route before Maldonado asks, "Can anybody drive me to my house?" The officer replies: "Is that a special favor you're asking for, alderman?"

A sign near St. Maarten's Princess Juliana International Airport warns people about the danger from airplane jet engines. The jet's blast was so powerful, it knocked her down, police said. She later died. Watching planes land and take off at Princess Juliana International Airport is a well-known tourist attraction, as approaching aircraft tend to fly very low above their heads. But both airport and local authorities warn against getting too close to the planes, calling the practice "extremely dangerous." Police didn't say what kind of plane was involved in Wednesday's incident. Island authorities say they have taken necessary pre

In those type of situations, help is just a text or phone call away -- except the repairman left his phone in his truck. With no phone, and no one around to free him, the repairman decided to write notes asking for help and slip it through the receipt slot, hoping a bank customer would see them. "Please help. I'm stuck in here, and I don't have my phone. Please call my boss," the repairman wrote along with his boss' phone number. Man Shot Cousin's Husband 'Because He Was Drunk,' Prosecutors Say

Image
On Media Outlook News:  COOK COUNTY CRIMINAL COURTHOUSE — A man on parole for armed robbery told police he fatally shot his cousin's husband in June "because he was drunk," prosecutors said Thursday. The victim, 41-year-old Edward Mason, said, "Damn, cous, you shot me, cous," before dying on the Near West Side about 3:35 a.m. June 4, police and prosecutors said. One of the accused gunmen, 31-year-old Albert Robinson, was denied bail Thursday on a first-degree murder charge. According to prosecutors, Robinson is Mason's wife's cousin. A second gunman, believed to be Mason's brother-in-law, has not yet been charged. Prosecutors allege Robinson, Mason, the brother-in-law and several witnesses were drinking in an alley in the 1800 block of West Maypole Avenue when an argument broke out shortly after 3 a.m. June 4. Mason's son stopped the argument — but Mason's brother-in-law soon pulled out a gun and approached Mason, Assistant Stat

DA: No charges against ATF agent who ran down man fleeing arrest in Milwaukee

Image
On Media Outlook News:  A federal agent who intentionally drove into a suspect as he ran from arrest in December won't face criminal charges, the Milwaukee County district attorney has decided. Bruce J. Young, 40, died not from the collision — caught on another driver's dash cam  — but from a nearly simultaneous self-inflicted gunshot, state investigators concluded. The bizarre "officer-involved death" resulted in the same kind of outside review as when an officer fatally shoots someone on duty. District Attorney John Chisholm said the agent clearly didn't intend the bump to be fatal, only to knock Young down so he could be disarmed. "I never expect a family in these circumstance to agree with my decision," he said, "but to me there is no evidence to support a criminal charge." According to records released Thursday by the state Department of Justice, whose Division of Criminal Investigations reviewed the incident: The federal Bur

Cops have a new strategy to fight heroin in Milwaukee: Cut off dealers' phones.

Image
On Media Outlook News:  Heroin dealing has grown into a booming business in Milwaukee, sending police in the city and beyond scrambling to disrupt the deadly trade.  But even as officers make busts and haul suspects to jail, the dealer's key source of cash — the cellphone number where orders roll in — often is quickly back up and running, sometimes in just an hour. Police say many dealers, knowing they could get arrested, have set up contingency plans to transfer the prized 10-digit number to a new phone, preserving its value and keeping the drugs — and cash — flowing. In the heroin business, the cellphone number is the lifeline of the trade. Well-established numbers can generate more than $11,000 a day — potentially millions a year.  To combat the quick switch, Milwaukee law enforcement officials are trying a new tactic, dubbed a "seize and freeze" order. Prosecutors ask a judge to allow them to freeze the phone number for a period of time, rendering the li
