Police: 10 arrested in area near 44th & Auer after crowd asked to disperse


MILWAUKEE -- Milwaukee police say 10 people were arrested for disorderly conduct and resisting an officer in the area near 44th and Auer Tuesday night, August 30th.
This, after police asked a crowd in the area to disperse.
Police said in a statement Tuesday night MPD and local elected officials received complaints about crowds gathering in the area. Residents of Milwaukee Sherman Park neighborhood asked for assistance to restore order to the neighborhood.


 On Tuesday around 8:00 p.m., MPD asked a crowd of about 30 to 40 people gathered in the area to peacefully disperse when officers observed violations of the law.
After waiting approximately 20 minutes, the crowd was again asked to leave.
Police say some of those present left the area, but others refused to leave. MPD began to make arrests.
Police say some in the crowd became disorderly and resistive and were also arrested.
As of 9:45 p.m., police said the area has been cleared and MPD continues to patrol the area.
The intersection at 44th and Auer is where 23-year-old Sylville Smith was shot and killed by Milwaukee police on August 13th.
